Unbelievable I bought this set in December 2011 and as an international customer I had to travel with it on an airplane. I removed the packaging from its original container and separated them in different pieces of hand luggage and only in bubble wrap. I was travelling in the peak christmas season so they said my carry ons were too large so they took them from me and checked them in. I was worried sick that the pieces would be all broken by the time they arrived at my final destination. To my surprise not even a crack or chip on any of the pieces which were checked. I could not believe that after that rugged handling they were still intact. The packaging from Amazon was perfect and I love the classy elegant look that they brought to my table. My guests kept complimenting them too. Love this set. The only fault I find is that the mugs could have been made a bigger as they are a bit small but thats no big deal. Love it love it. I highly recommend this set.
I love my Italian Countryside but they do chip easier that I would like This set comes with 8 dinner plates 8 salad plates 8 cream soup bowls 8 teacups 8 saucers a platter a serving bowl creamer and sugar bowl. The platter is basically a larger plate about 2 inches larger than the dinner plate you can see it here
Plates don't fit in any standard upper cabinet! The set arrived in good condition as far as i can tell since i only took out the top dinner plate and tried to put it in my kitchen cabinet. All of my cabinets are standard kitchen cabinets and they clearly do not fit. WAY too big. Since all standard kitchen cabinets have outside depth of twelve inches I don't know who's cabinets they could fit in. They would only work in a corner cabinet or dish rack. I think this is a significant design flaw. I will be returning the set.
I love it I love these dishes. They are my favorite. They look great on the dinner table and they hold up very very well. I would defintely recommend these dishes to anyone.
absolutely beautiful set of dishes Beautiful plates great value well packaged. This set of Mikasa Italian countryside 8 place setting is an excellent value especially with the added serving platter vegetable bowl sugar & creamer. I also purchased this during a 20% off sale for amazon rewards card holders so the deal was even sweeter. The dishes aren't too fussy or heavy for everyday use but elegant enough for a special occasion. They are off white/light cream. The platter is basically an oversized dinnerplate circular the vegetable bowl is more the style of a large cereal bowl with high sides. Sugar & creamer are pretty but small so they only fit the intended use couldn't use the creamer as a gravy boat for example.If anyone is hesitant about having dishes shipped none of the dishes I received were damaged from shipping because the packaging was excellent. It came shipped in a very large single box with one small FRAGILE sticker on it and it looked slightly beat up from transit. However upon opening it there was another cardboard box inside that was completely encased in bubblewrap and those air filled bumpers. Inside this 2nd box was ANOTHER boxthe actual box that you would find if buying in a store contained a picture of the item and the Mikasa logo. Inside this final large box was three smaller boxes 2 with 4 place settings each and one with the extra items platter veg. bowl etc. All dishes were separated with corrugated cardboard squares. This is a case where a ridiculous amount of packaging seems warranted.Upon close inspection of the dishes I did not find flaws in the coloring or cracks. The only imperfection I found on the surface of any of the dishes was a tiny pin point size black dot on the edge of one dinnerplate. Absolutely not a reason to exchange.
Pleased with Elegant Design The design is elegant and formal enough to use as good china for dinner parties. The color is what I would call mushroom soup. In the Amazon photo the color was poorly rendered and appeared just offwhite perhaps ivory. I like the actual color!The coffee cups with saucers are too formal and too small for use at the kitchen breakfast counter but nice on a dinner table. The cups do not stack well so storage space could be a problem. The photo of these is accurate so I should have thought ahead. Oh well I've got lots of mugs.The dinner plates are 111/16 in diameter and seem quite large. The 83/4 salad plates will do well for breakfast and lunch. The soup bowls at 91/2 are just fine and can double as small serving bowls. You will need cereal or fruit bowls which are sold separately.The prices on the service for four seemed too high but the price of the service for eight was great and included a serving bowl round platter sugar and creamer.A bit too fancy for everyday for most tastes perhaps but good for those with one set of dinnerware who still want to set a fancy dinner table.
Beautiful Dishes I bought these dishes in 2009. I love them! They still look great three years later. I continue to buy additional serving pieces. I also use the fruit bowl for our cereal bowls.
Displeased with Replacement policy for shipping damage Although the dinnerware is lovely I was very displeased with the replacement policy. I had two broken pieces when the box arrived. I put away the dishes and threw away the box. When I called Amazon I was informed that I needed to return the entire set and they would replace the entire set. Since I no longer had the packing materials it was simply too much trouble to buy an appropriate box and packing materials to protect the dishes for shipping repack everything and take it to be mailed. I am annoyed that I have to now replace the broken pieces at my expense through Mikasa and pay the shipping charges.
Exactly perfect This set is exactly what I wanted. I did quite a bit of research for a versatile set which I could dress up or down I'm very happy I chose this one. It has an almost tailored look to it but the edging adds some feminine softness. These are substantial without being clunky and delicate enough to be pretty with lace tablecloths. I chose Mikasa because I appreciate the high quality and affordable price of their products [I used a 45 pc set of Country Cabin for 30 years before replacing it]. The dinnerware arrived in perfect condition. I also bought a 12 piece set in order to get extra plates and the bowls from that set are welcome extra serving bowls. This set is exactly perfect for me.
